Senior partner of Aleinikov&Partners law firm Denis Aleinikov spoke at an expanded meeting of Section 1 of the Scientific Advisory Board on social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus under the Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus in its sixth calling on the topic named «Improving the Provisions of the Civil Code of the Republic of Belarus as an Essential Requirement for Meeting the Challenges of Social and Economic Development of the Republic of Belarus». The meeting was held on May 30, 2019.
As part of his report, Denis Aleinikov has expressed the opinion that a number of new institutions shall be implemented in the Civil Code, suggesting, in particular, the enlargement of the list of civil rights’ objects by including «digital property»; envisaging the possibility of making and (or) exercising transactions through smart contract, as well as fixing a French analogue of such institution as «astreinte» in the form of the option of collecting a fine from a debtor, determined by the court, in case the debtor fails to fulfill the obligation in accordance with a court order.
The event was attended by representatives of government agencies, academics, business representatives and the judiciary panel.
